66th Independence Day Celebration

On every 6th March, Ghana celebrates its independence day nationwide. The 66th maiden edition of the celebration took place in the Volta Region. Various MMDAs also graced the celebration at their various levels. The Suaman District celebration the the season at the Karlo (Suburb of Dadieso). Dignitaries who were present to grace the occasion include the Hon. DCE, the DCD, Security Forces, Nananom, and Staff of the District Assembly.

1st Staff Durbar for the year 2023

The Suaman District Assembly on the Wednesday 22nd of February 2023, held its 1st Staff Durbar for the year. This durbar was held to address oppressing issues in the institution. Present in this meeting was the DCE (Hon. Philip Kwabena Boahen), DCD (Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Fiebor) and the Suaman District Assembly Staff. All issues and concerns raised by staff were addressed by the DCE and the DCD to ensure good and smooth working conditions in the institution.

Distribution of items to Disabled 2023

As part of the government’s effort to incorporate Persons with Disability (PWDs) into the mainstream of society and to help them contribute their quota to the development of the nation, 3% of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) is allocated to support PWDs activities. 

The fund as captured in the Guidelines for the Disbursement and Management of the District Assembly’s Common Fund for Persons with Disability (DACF for PWDs), is to be used to achieve the following objectives for PWDs.

  • To support the income-generating activities of individual persons with disabilities as a means of economic empowerment
  • To provide educational support for children, students and trainees with disabilities.
  • To build the capacity of the Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPWDs) in the districts to enable them to advocate and assert their rights and undertake awareness raising and sensitization on disability issues.
  • To support persons with disabilities to have access to technical aids and other assistive devices and equipment.

    The support which was presented to twenty-eight (28) Persons with Disability within the Suaman District was worth One Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Nine-four Ghana Cedis (GH₵113,994.00)

    Selected beneficiaries were advised to make use of their request as expected of them because they have at least been better supported through the needs assessment conducted. Those who could not benefit from the disbursement should expect theirs patiently as is an ongoing process.

    Below is a breakdown of the support (disbursement) given by the District Assembly to PWDs as a start-up or top-up for income-generating activities and education exclusively.

1st Quarter Internal Audit Committee Meeting, 2023

On Friday 27th January, 2023, the Internal Audit unit held a committee meeting at the District Assembly Hall at exactly 10:00 am.

The purpose of the meeting are as follows;

  1. Discussion of Internal Audit 2022 4th Quarter Report.
  2. Discussion and Approval of 2023 Internal Audit Annual Action Plan.
  3. Discussion and Approval of 2023 Internal Audit Charter.
  4. Review of the status of Implementation of the 2021 Auditor General’s Report.

Three Day Working visit by the DCE

The District Chief Executive (Philip Kwabena Boahen) on 17th to 19th January, 2023, paid a working visit to some selected institutions in the district to know their successes and challenges in the previous year (2022) also, the way forward for the year 2023.

These institutions includes; Customs, Exercise and Preventive Service, Ghana Immigration Service, District Health Directorate, District Directorate of Education, KUMAD Global Limited, Agenda 111 project site, Ghana COCOBOD, Ghana Police Service and Dadieso Senior High School.

National Fitness Day

2nd Saturday of every month has been set to embark on National Fitness Exercise nationwide. The exercise is to promote fitness among Ghanaians. The Suaman District on Saturday 10th December 2022 as usual, embarked on a memorable National Fitness Day Exercise.

Hundreds of people came in their numbers to take part in fitness exercise. Present were the DCD of Suaman District, Security Forces (Customs, Immigration and Police), Suaman District Assembly Staff, various associations, General public and Students of Dadieso Senior High School.

The fitness exercise commenced with a mass health walk and ended with aerobics at the forecourt of the Suaman District Assembly.

The DCD after the aerobics congratulated all persons present and promised to make the upcoming fitness events more memorable.

As part to improve the IGF (Internally Generated Fund) in the District, the Suaman District Assembly held an orientation for the Revenue collectors on 9th December, 2022 at the Assembly hall. The idea of this was to educate the collectors on techniques and measures that will help them mobilize revenue for the District Assembly.

SUADA holds DISEC meeting on Cocoa smuggling to Ivory Coast

The Ghana Cocobod Per their investigation carried out confirmed the allegation of Cocoa smuggling into Ivory Coast and as such spelling out sanctions on Cocobod activities in the Suaman District.

This report called for an emergency District Security Council meeting to discuss on precautions and measures that can help curb the activities of Cocoa smuggling in the district.

38th Edition of National Farmers’ Day

Farmers’ Day in Ghana is celebrated on the first Friday of December every year. This day is set aside to recognize the contribution of farmers and fishermen in the country. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture through MMDAs, honors deserving farmers and fishermen with special awards in various categories of the sector.

The 38th edition of the National Farmers’ Day was held on the 2nd December, 2022 in the Eastern Region. The Suaman District Assembly in the Western North Region marked the day at Kwasuo. The ceremony was held at Kwasuo. Farmers in the Suaman District brought their farm produce and livestock for exhibition at the ceremony. The District Chief Executive (Hon. Philip Kwabena Boahen) together with his team, Chiefs and Elders of the land, the Security Agencies, Religious Leaders, and the public servants and the general public were present to honor our hard working farmers.

The Chief of Kwasuo, Nana Osei Kwame in his speech emphasized on how proud and honored he was to host an occasion of such nature and commended the planning team for  doing his community the honour to host the event. He again advised and encouraged the youth to engage and invest their resources and energy into agriculture as it is a lucrative venture.

The District Director of Agric, Mr. Samuel K. Sarfo in his speech briefed the general public on the importance of Agriculture in the District and the Nation as a whole. He mentioned that, three farmers from the Suaman District have been nominated for awards at the regional level in this Farmers Day Celebration at Asawinso.

In his address, Hon. Philip Kwabena Boahen commended the Government and the President for the massive support given to the Agric sector over the years. He commended our farmers for their massive support to the Suaman District and their overall input to the country’s growth and development.

Inspection of farm produce exhibited followed the DCE’s speech and the awards to the various categories.

The items presented included Wheel barrows, Knapsack Sprayers, Wellington Boots, TV set, Refrigerators and the Grand award which was a Tricycle.
