As part of the government’s effort to incorporate Persons with Disability (PWDs) into the mainstream of society and to help them contribute their quota to the development of the nation, 3% of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) is allocated to support PWDs activities.
The fund as captured in the Guidelines for the Disbursement and Management of the District Assembly’s Common Fund for Persons with Disability (DACF for PWDs), is to be used to achieve the following objectives for PWDs.
- To support the income-generating activities of individual persons with disabilities as a means of economic empowerment
- To provide educational support for children, students and trainees with disabilities.
- To build the capacity of the Organisation of Persons with Disabilities (OPWDs) in the districts to enable them to advocate and assert their rights and undertake awareness raising and sensitization on disability issues.
- To support persons with disabilities to have access to technical aids and other assistive devices and equipment.
The support which was presented to twenty-eight (28) Persons with Disability within the Suaman District was worth One Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, Nine Hundred and Nine-four Ghana Cedis (GH₵113,994.00)
Selected beneficiaries were advised to make use of their request as expected of them because they have at least been better supported through the needs assessment conducted. Those who could not benefit from the disbursement should expect theirs patiently as is an ongoing process.
Below is a breakdown of the support (disbursement) given by the District Assembly to PWDs as a start-up or top-up for income-generating activities and education exclusively.
