The Suaman District Assembly successfully held a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the 24-Hour Economy Model Market and the commissioning of newly installed solar streetlights on Tuesday, 24th June, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
The event brought together a wide range of stakeholders and community members, including the District Chief Executive (DCE), traditional leaders (Nananom), pastors, representatives of the Muslim community, former DCEs, a regional delegation, the project contractor and his team, staff of the Suaman District Assembly, security services, various working groups, and members of the general public.
In an opening address, the DCD, Mr. Vincent Banye depicted the purpose of the gathering and thanked all stakeholders for making it a point to the ceremony.
In his remarks, the DCE, Hon. Vasco Obour emphasized the importance of the 24-Hour Economy Model Market in promoting local economic development, creating employment opportunities, and improving trading activities within the district.
The District works Engineer, Mr. Charles Wornor Tetteh in his speech, described how the 24-Hour model market is going to look like and also asked the Project Contractor the duration of the project which he boldly said “It’s a One and Half year project”.
Former DCE, Philip K. Boahen in his speech commended the good job of the sitting DCE and encouraged him to do more. Nananom also gave their speech to show how involved and supportive they are in the up-coming project.
The first phase of the ceremony ended with the sod-cutting and proceeded to the commissioning of the Solar streetlights (Second Phase).
The commissioning of the solar streetlights is also expected to enhance security, improve visibility at night, and support economic and social activities in the community.
The Assembly expressed its appreciation to all stakeholders for their support and participation and reaffirmed its commitment to implementing development projects that improve the livelihoods of residents across the district.
The ceremony marked another significant step towards the socio-economic growth and transformation of the Suaman District.
